Engineering Note on Biogas & Landfill Gas Tolerance
Unlike pipeline natural gas, renewable gases can fluctuate in composition and may contain corrosive contaminants. Gas generator configurations for biogas and landfill gas should therefore be selected according to the actual fuel composition and the applicable engine specifications.

CH₄ (Methane Content)
Selected engine configurations can support methane concentrations down to CH₄ ≥ 40%, with dynamic air-fuel ratio control.

H₂S Resistance
Selected engine configurations can tolerate H₂S levels up to 200 ppm. Higher concentrations may require upstream gas treatment.

Siloxanes & Moisture Control
Multi-stage condensate traps and optional activated carbon scrubbers can help control moisture and siloxane-related deposits within the engine system.
Fuel Gas Types and Operational Considerations
Natural Gas Generators
Pipeline natural gas typically provides high methane content and a relatively stable supply, making it an ideal choice for continuous industrial operation, peak shaving, and commercial standby power.
Key Focus:
• Gas Train Safety: Equipped with reliable safety shut-off valves and comprehensive gas train protection.
• Inlet Pressure Control: Regulated gas inlet pressure, typically 10–300 kPa depending on the engine model.
• Engine Control: Advanced anti-knock control parameters precisely matched to the selected engine.
Typical Applications: Manufacturing plants, data center backup, municipal utilities, and urban distributed power generation.
Biogas and Renewable Gas Generators
Biogas produced from anaerobic digestion, agricultural livestock waste, or municipal wastewater treatment contains varying levels of methane, carbon dioxide, moisture, and corrosive trace elements.
Key Focus:
• H₂S Corrosion Control: Specialized measures to mitigate internal corrosion caused by hydrogen sulfide.
• Moisture Management: Strict control of moisture condensation within the fuel system manifold.
• Air-Fuel Ratio Adjustment: Dynamic adjustment capabilities to accommodate seasonal or biological shifts in methane concentration.
Upstream Gas Treatment Guidance: Where contaminant levels exceed strict manufacturer thresholds, our engineering team integrates upstream gas treatment solutions:
• Moisture separators and gas chillers
• Activated carbon and iron sponge H₂S scrubbers

Step-by-Step Gas Generator Selection Guide
Calculate Electrical Load and Profile: Assess continuous operating loads, starting currents for large electric motors, and potential future load expansion.
Analyze Fuel Composition and Quality: Verify methane concentration, heating value, and potential corrosive contaminants (submitting a gas chromatography report is strongly recommended).
Verify Gas Supply Pressure and Flow: Confirm that the gas delivery pressure at the generator skids meets the minimum requirements of the pressure-regulating train.
Define Operating Duty: Specify whether the unit operates as prime power (continuous baseload) or standby backup.
Evaluate Environmental and Acoustic Constraints: Determine if the unit will be installed indoors, within a sound-attenuated enclosure, or inside an outdoor ISO container.
