Power Requirements in Remote and Temporary Projects
Temporary power is commonly needed during the period between project mobilization and permanent electrical infrastructure. At remote sites, generator sets may remain the primary source of electricity for the duration of the operation.
The power requirement can also change as the project develops. A construction site may initially supply lighting and site offices, then add pumps, compressors, welding equipment, cranes and other machinery. A remote industrial facility may require continuous generation with limited access to utility power.

Site Conditions Affect Generator Selection
Load Characteristics
The generator needs to accommodate the actual operating load as well as starting and transient requirements from motors, pumps, compressors and other inductive equipment.
Operating Duty
The required configuration is different when the generator operates for several hours per day compared with continuous prime power operation.
Environmental Conditions
Ambient temperature, altitude, dust, humidity and weather exposure can affect engine performance, cooling and enclosure requirements.
Fuel Availability
Fuel consumption, tank capacity, delivery frequency and available storage need to be considered together, particularly at remote locations.
Transportation
Mobile and containerized equipment must be suitable for the available transport method, site access and relocation requirements.

Generator Capacity for Changing Loads
Single Generator
Suitable when the required load remains within the capacity of one generator.
Multiple Generators

Parallel Operation
Multiple generator sets can be synchronized and operated as a combined generating system. Load sharing allows the available generation capacity to be distributed between operating units.

Fuel Autonomy
Where refueling is difficult, a larger fuel tank or external fuel storage system may be required to achieve the specified operating period.
Cooling
High ambient temperatures and restricted airflow can affect radiator performance and engine output. Cooling arrangements should therefore be evaluated against actual site conditions.
Altitude
At higher elevations, reduced air density can affect engine performance. The site altitude should be considered when determining the required generator specification.
Dust Protection
Mining and construction environments may expose engines and electrical components to high levels of dust. Appropriate filtration and enclosure arrangements may be required.
Maintenance Access
